Using the ethnographinc model (try and separate it into the three areas highlighted) evaluate your own text. Have you inadvertently prevented certain 'audiences' from accessing your text?
I have inadvertently prevented certain audiences from accessing my text because the domestic environment has issues about finance for purchase of media goods, the control of the remote, the gendered nature of watching TV and the 'flow' of TV that fits alongside or within a set of demestic relationships. So TV viewing may not be the concentrated, analtical business that some theorists suggest. My trailer is targeting the male gender but if the female of the house maybe the mum has control of the remote then the males will not be able to see my trailer so they will not be able to see the film. The other side to this arguement is that people with more money may have more than one TV in their house so they will be able to watch the trailer. This will mean that I am inadvertently preventing the audience with less money because they will not have the opertunity to see the trailer because they don't have control of the remote.
The second area is gender appeal. My gangster trailer appeals to a male gender so I am preventing the majority of females from watching my trailer.
The third area relates to the way we engage with the hardware in order to enjoy the output of the media. There seems to be a strong gender divide here with computers and complex technology fitting into the catergory of 'boys' toys'. There seams to be an increasing devide between gender lines just like the lines of information rich and information poor. Information rich people are people who have access to technology such as computer TV's etc and information poor people are the opposite. My gangster film trailers will target information rich people because these are the people who will go to the cinemas and watch the films. My gangster film trailer is aimed at males so they are the people who will engage most with the text.
Overall the shift in the models for audience has gone from mass audience to individual viewer with stress on the active audience is related to uses, pleasures, cultural, competence, situation and availbile technology for the particular audience. My gangster trailer has targeted males who are infromation rich and are between the age of 18 and 25.
